Quarterly Health Status Survey

October 1, 2009

To ensure that Kralek Farms' rabbits are of the highest quality, an independent consulting veterinarian performs routine health monitoring.  The following information is based on results from our testing program during the period of July 1 through September 30, 2009.

Monitoring Procedures:

All Kralek Farms Rabbits are examined daily by our carefully trained staff.  Rabbits are randomly tested by nasopharyngeal cultures to monitor for Pasteurella multocida.  Quarterly visits by our consulting veterinarian are followed by health screenings performed on five (5) randomly selected animals by the California Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory.

Results:

All nasopharyngeal cultures were negative for P. multocida.

Necropsy - No evidence of specific disease was noted clinically or pathologically in the rabbits examined.

- Rabbits examined were free from ectoparasites.

- Gross necropsy examination revealed no lesions.

- Cultures of lungs and nasal passages were negative for P. multocida.

- Cultures of feces were negative for Salmonella spp.

- Rabbits were negative for Treponema cuniculi on dark field examination.

- Histopathological examination of the liver, lung, heart, small intestine and kidney revealed no significant lesions.

-         Fecal flotation revealed few coccidial oocysts while gut scrapings and liver histopathology were negative for coccidia.
